Any certification course should cover CPR and choking procedures (adult, child, infant and 2-rescuer), heart attacks and strokes, AED intro, as well as topics such as bleeding, shock, fainting, poisoning, epilepsy, diabetic emergencies, allergic reactions, burn accidents, heat and cold emergencies, head, neck and musculoskeletal injuries. Courses (approximately 14-18 hours long) are available from the Canadian Red Cross Society and similar associations.
Please note that re-certification is normally required every three years, and valid certification must be maintained for the duration of all clinical studies.

ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA

Applicants program must have a minimum of two academic years (60 semester credits/90 quarter credits) education at baccalaureate level, which is appropriate preparation for graduate level work, from an institution holding a provincial charter and membership of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada or accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.  All courses must have a grade of 70% or higher to be eligible for credit transfer.  Please arrange to have transcripts sent directly to Ongiara College upon application.  Your application cannot be processed until they are received.  Ongiara College reserves the right to make a charge for any transcripts that need to be evaluated.

Non-US International students need to contact the College Principal for details of the admission requirements and process and related administrative costs.
Licensed medical professionals with certification requiring at least the standard of training of a registered nurse or physician’s assistant may be able to demonstrate equivalency: please have your credentials reviewed by the College Admissions Board.
US students should note that certain State Acupuncture Boards require that you have completed a full baccalaureate level (Bachelor’s) degree before commencing acupuncture and Oriental medicine studies, rather than an Associate degree (2 years/60 credits).  Further information is available from the college and it is ultimately your responsibility to check pre-requisites and licensure requirements carefully with the Board of Medicine or Acupuncture Licensing Board in the state in which you plan to practice.
