REFLECTIVE PRACTICE
"By
three methods we may learn wisdom: first by reflection,
which is noblest;
second by imitation, which is easiest;
and third by experience, which is the bitterest."
Confucius
Ongiara College is committed to the development of reflective
acupuncture practitioners and uses the reflective learning
cycle, reflective writing in journals, self-assessment,
literature reviews, professional portfolios, critical
incident methodologies, research-minded inquiry and action
research strategies throughout the program of study. Reflective
practice is “a dialogue of thinking and doing through
which I become more skillful”. Schön
(1987) By its nature, it integrates theory
and practice.
“The Reflective Practice approach believes that
good work in a profession involves more than being good
at basic skills. It involves:
- developing knowledge during practice through reflection
on practice which in turn transforms and is transformed
by further practice
- a commitment to a set of moral principles involving
complex and serious responsibilities requiring the
exercise of professional judgement
- thinking and improvising on one’s feet
- the endless exercise and refinement of professional
judgement”
